Every Thursday, AF profiles a style icon from the music world. This week our icon is Alexis Krauss, whose band Sleigh Bells is currently on tour in support of their latest record, Bitter Rivals. They land in NYC Friday and Saturday for two back-to-back shows at Terminal 5.
A symphony of shredding guitars and synths opened up Sleigh Bell’s first album back in 2010. Behind those high-energy guitars and keyboards rocking is Alexis Krauss, the female half of the pop duo. In person, Krauss looks like she perfectly embodies her music, sporting distressed denim jackets, muscle shirts and high-waisted acid wash cutoffs as her go-to uniform. With her bold, black straight-cut bangs and signature black Ray-Bans, she carries the same cool, old-school punk/grunge demeanor displayed in Sleigh Bell’s music. From the moment the camera panned to her driving and wearing her usual acid-wash denim jacket that showed off her arm tattoos, complimented with layers of spiky bracelets, spiked driving gloves and sunglasses, she established that cool-but-a-little-bad-girl demeanor that she soon displayed by pushing bandmate Derek Miller — presumably dead in the passenger seat — right out of the car when he slouches over onto her. We’re enchanted by the girl herself, as well as her style.
