#NEWMUSICMONDAY: Cordelia & The Buffalo “7th Sea”

Cordelia Vizcaino

This week’s New Music Monday features the single “7th Sea” from “tribal fusion” stars Cordelia & The Buffalo. Lead by Mexican-American front woman and vocalist Cordelia Vizcaino, the infectious single “7th Sea” features dance-ready electronic beats and exceptional vocals. One listen and you’ll understand why the song served as the official anthem for the 2015 Copa America international soccer tournament,.

Vizcaino was born and raised in Houston, and according to a press release, summons her muse from native Mexican tribes of her homeland, as well as others. There’s a variety of cultures to celebrate, her band, aka the Buffalo, is made up of Rodrigo Gramitto (guitar), Diego Diaz (drums), Dan McCallum (bass), Dag Hanken (percussion), and herself (vocals, percussion, and synths/keyboard). The six members hail from Mexico, Japan, Norway, Alaska, and Venezuela, birthing a truly eclectic listening experience.

Popping with goddess-ready clothing and makeup to match the intensity of the music, at first glance the video for the track is obviously a masterpiece in costume design, but according to Vizcaino, there’s even more to it than what meets the eye, a chakra-inspired journey of manifesting freedom.

From the band’s press release:

“Each color represents the different stages and sensations one has to go through to let go of the past and make way for a greater purpose,” Vizcaino explains. “It’s like being in a long distance relationship with your past and future. The White shadows portray the past that still craves to manifest itself. The Orange phase represents the present yearning for a future that feels far from reach. Finally, the Green phase is the prosperous “grass-is-greener-on-the-other-side” future that we all work to attain, and the full identity of my tribal Mexican heritage that inspires my work everyday. This is all meant to motivate people to bloom from their own Green phase into who they want to become.”

#NEWMUSICMONDAY: Skott “Porcelain”

Skott

For this week’s New Music Monday, we have the debut single “Porcelain” from the stunning new artist Skott.

Legend goes that Skott grew up in a commune within a forest run by ‘outcast’ folk musicians. While we can surmise that folk music was a cornerstone of her childhood, the first time she heard contemporary music was through adventures into the city as a teen. The story draws instant curiosity on what her own music would sound like, considering her isolated upbringing. The answer is just what you’d expect.

Appealing to fans of Edward Sharpe, Birdy, and Say Lou Lou, “Porcelain” is a magical, modern take on traditional folk sensibilities. We can’t wait to hear more from this mysterious newcomer. Her 7″ vinyl is slated for release this summer, July 29.

Listen to “Porcelain” below.

#NEWMUSICMONDAY: Yoke Lore “Heavy Love”

yoke lore

Today, for our New Music Monday selection, which highlights the debut track from an artist, we bring you Yoke Lore’s “Heavy Love.”

Yoke Lore is the latest project from Brooklyn multi-instrumentalist and song writer Adrian Galvin. Along with stretching minds with music, Galvin also works as a yoga instructor, and spent a year studying meditation in India. The practice has paid off; “Heavy Love,” is a slice of emotive dreamy indie pop that is on-point with the complicated pain that is modern love.

“Heavy Love” may be his debut single, off the “Far Shore” EP released earlier this month, but it’s not the only track worth checking out, “Hold Me Down” is another chilling tune worth clicking on.

Keep your eyes on Yoke Lore, and watch the video for “Heavy Love” below.

Fresh off that album is the single “Diagram Girl” and accompanying video, the first in what will be a series of films complementing the album.

“Diagram Girl” is a cool, dreamy track that will melt into your day like a deep breath or a cup of lavender tea. Electronic music that fills the air like a hazy ambient cloud, if you’re feeling the jagged edges of your Monday, slip into this track to take the edge off.

Watch the video for “Diagram Girl” below.

#NEWMUSICMONDAY: Elohim “Sensations”

newmusicmonday

To pick you up on this dreary Monday, we have “Sensations,” the lead single from Los Angeles alt pop artist Elohim‘s forthcoming self-titled debut EP.

The enchanting synth-driven track starts slow and picks up to a frantic climax, as Elohim admits: “I kind of like how it gives you chills.” The song explores themes of love and sex, and that one crucial ingredient for the blending of the two to take place: vulnerability.

Take a listen below:

After our hiatus leading up to our makeover, AudioFemme is back – and so is New Music Monday. To celebrate our favorite column on the most hated day of the week, we have something extra lovely for you today. The debut single from Yumi Zouma is called “Keep It Close To Me,” from the band’s upcoming debut album Yoncalla out 5/27 on Cascine. Yumi Zouma consists of members Christie Simpson, Sam Perry, Charlie Ryder, and Josh Burgess.

The single is slated to put these “blog darlings” on the world map, and once you listen, you’ll understand why.  A delicate, dreamy electro-pop track, “Keep It Close To Me” captures the beauty in sadness. “You never promised nothing, I always gave you something…” The song’s attitude is that of “whatever happens” and strength of self, that moment when things may not have played out as it seems, but there’s still reason to sing.

#NEWMUSICMONDAY: DRISKILL “Worn”

DRISKILL AudioFemme

For this week’s New Music Monday, we have the debut track “Worn” from indie-folk rockers DRISKILL.

DRISKILL was birthed in Wilmington, NC by the joined forces of banjo player Ethan Driskill, and guitarist JD Williamson. The duo is climbing their way through the Wilmington music scene and out across America, just in time for the release of their first full-length album, Country Blues, slated to drop April 8 via Attic Space Records.

Even far away from the country mountains, city dwellers in Brooklyn can appreciate the nostalgic and heartfelt lyrics telling the tale of the comforting folk rock. We all feel worn down, a little beat up, and torn from time to time. Take a minute and reacquaint yourself with how lovely folk music can be by listening to “Worn” below.

For this New Music Monday we have “Of Wandering,” the title track from Littler’s debut album. #NEWMUSICMONDAY: Raveena “You Give Me That”

Raveena

Today for New Music Monday, we have for you the debut single “You Give Me That” from New York’s soul singer Raveena. In an email to The Fader, she wrote: “The lyrics I wrote are about submission, perhaps not even in a sexual sense, but completely losing yourself in something sensual and human with no care for anything else you have to do that day.” Rather than fight the lethargic Monday blues, nestle into your chair, take a listen, and submit to that something something.

#NEWMUSICMONDAY: 4am “More”

4am_The_Band

The mysterious electro-R&B 4am released their debut track, “More,” and we’re here to share it with you on this New Music Monday. There’s little known about the male/female duo, but fans of The XX, James Blake, and Chvrches will dig the haunted, sexy cool electro beats, as staticky female vocals poke through to explain: “I need more…” The song invokes emotions surrounding that distinct mental break, hot with both sadness and the thrill of self confidence, when you finally say out loud that you need more, and decided to go out and get it.

Check out “More” below:

#NEWMUSICMONDAY: Stranded Horse “Monde”

Today for New Music Monday we have the debut track “Monde” from Stranded Horse. The African-influenced French language track is one of many magnificent gems from their latest LP Luxe. Soothing and introspective, the song warms like a bath surrounded by candles, the room filled with vocal incantations. Stranded Horse is the latest inception of artist Yann Tambour. Plucking at his guitar, on “Monde” Tambour’s strings are augmented by vocals from friend Eloise Decazes of Arlt.

#NEWMUSICMONDAY: Goldensuns “I Feel This Place”

GoldenSuns

Enjoy New Music Monday with an otherworldly track from Los Angeles-based Goldensuns. The three-piece band consists of three brothers: Chase (bass/lead singer), Jantzen (guitar/vocals), and Weston Meier (drums/vocals).  “I Feel This Place” is the debut track from the indie-rockers’ upcoming project, which should be out in January 2016 with a tour to follow. One can only speculate that “I Feel This Place” could have been inspired by the band’s move from Salt Lake City to LA. The song conjures up the heady (and rare) feeling of the joy experienced when you seem to inexplicably land right where you should be.

#NEWMUSICMONDAY: New Madrid “Don’t Hold Me Now”

New Madrid

Today we have a fresh track from Athens-based indie rock quartet New Madrid for New Music Monday. What a delightful sentence to type, with delightful music to back it up. Coming at you from their third album, magnetkingmagnetqueen, due in April via New West Records’ imprint, Normaltown Records. “Don’t Hold Me Now” is a dreamy rush of endorphins, fitting, as the song is about “that sensation when someone or something pulls you from a dream at what can feel like the worst or the best time. Your last moment of the dream before being woken up. Don’t hold me now, I’m dreaming,” writes Stereogum in their premiere of the song.

New Madrid is made up of Phil McGill (guitar/vox,) Graham Powers (guitar/vox,) Ben Hackett (bass/vox,) and Alex Woolley (drums/percussion). They are currently on tour with Nashville psych-rockers All Them Witches.

#NEWMUSICMONDAY: She-Devils “Come”

She-Devils

She-Devils is the Montreal retro-pop duo Audrey Ann and Kyle Jukka. Their debut single “Come” layers distorted 60’s psych-pop sounds stitched together by Jukka, as Ann’s vocals order the listener to “Come. Come. Come. Don’t try to resist me.”  With crunchy vocals that play like an incantation, and swirls and loops of hypnotic noise, we won’t resist at all. Take a listen to “Come” below.

#NEWMUSICMONDAY: Kedr Livanskiy “Sgoraet”

KEDR LIVANSKIY

This Monday, as Thanksgiving travel plans peak over the horizon, there is an energy of paused excitement. Today’s vibe is a little weird. To honor that, we’re going to share with you something a little weird for New Music Monday. We have the debut track “Sgoraet” from Russian artist Kedr Livanskiy. Kedr Livanskiy is Russian for Lebanese Cedar. The lo-fi synth-y ” “Sgoraet” (Russian for “Burning Down”) is equal parts scary and romantic, but not scary and romantic like a Tinder date held in a botanical garden, but scary and romantic like an old Italian horror film about doomed ballerinas.

Check out “Sgoraet” below.

#NEWMUSICMONDAY: The By Gods “On The Radio”

THEBYGODS1

It’s Monday, and I don’t feel good. I’m cranky. My birthday was the weekend and I feel a year older and none the wiser. Riffing on my angsty vibes, yet pulling me out of my I-don’t-wanna-work lethargy, is Nashville’s The By Gods with their first single “On the Radio.” A trio made up of George Pauley (vocals, guitar), Natalie Pauley (bass), and Tye Hammonds (drums), the “no frills” rockers give it to you straight with a 90’s-alt attitude and just the right amount of ass kicking so you might actually accomplish something today.

Listen to “On the Radio” below and shake off your moody blues. Their upcoming album Get On Feelings will be out January 22nd.

#NEWMUSICMONDAY: The Gloomies “LSD”

The Gloomies

The Gloomies is a fitting name for the ever-feared Monday, but despite the grim name, these surf punk rockers were formed in “a sun-bleached surf town in southern California.” Indeed their debut single “LSD” is a delightful blend of gloom and glow, like Halloween in paradise. Consisting of Andrew Craig, Blake Martz, Chris Trombley and Grant Martz, lead singer Andy Craig spent a brief period in our New York grey concrete jungle before heading back west in 2014, a year which he lived out of his suitcase most of the time. A rite of passage for many of the creatively inflicted, and an experience that would become the inspiration behind the single.

“LSD” / “Groves” is available on October 16th courtesy of Thrill Me Records. Listen to “LSD” – and don’t miss their second newly released single – “Groves.” Both will set the tone for a Beetlejuice celebration of a week.

#NEWMUSICMONDAY: Hibou “In The Sun”

Hibou

Coming from Seattle, Hibou is Peter Michel. The debut album will be released September 18, but for this #newmusicMonday we’re sharing one of our favorite tracks – “In The Sun.” It’s a heady song evocative of happiness, that mysterious emotion evading any music lover who relates to High Fidelity  – yet holds the cheese. Hazy guitars and nostalgic vocals create a perfumey track for anyone who has had to Google the symptoms of a smile to figure out what’s going on.

Listen to “In The Sun” below.
